The rest of the story

This afternoon we made the trek up Mauna Kea to enjoy the snow and beauty. Hadn't been up the mountain in the snow for several years. Perfect weather-- no wind and warm in the sun.

Snow-covered pu'u near the sumit.

Looking up from Keck -- from left, NASA infrared, Canada-France-Hawaii, Gemini (Nat'l. Science Foundation), and University of Hawaii

Inside Keck 1 looking up at the underside of the mirrors.

Christian with the Subaru facility in background.

Christian and Mom with Haleakala in the background.

The old man (and Mom) on the mountain.

Wish we'd had snowboards or skis!

Looking from the summit toward the Hamakua coast.

The snow has formed interesting shapes as it has melted.

Pu'u from the top. What a great way to end a lovely weekend!

Well, you do have snow. You just don't have to deal with it 5 times a week. You get to eat strawberries instead.

No. I'm not jealous.

Snow there is so different from snow here. Todd and I were remembering last Christmas when we went skiing the day before we flew home and then went to the beach. But, I would like to come home now please. Thank you.
